The Grapes of Wrath shares many themes with the Bible. Through allusion, John Steinbeck creates a powerful leader, an oppressed people, and their long, hard journey to the Promised Land. He models Jim Casy after the Son of God, Jesus Christ. Steinbeck documents the Joad family and other oppressed people in the novel, the Israelites.
